Thanks for taking the time to join us here Wik Projects, I hope that you find this site is informative and that through browsing our website that you gain a good introduction to the future pathways which we are embarking on with the introduction of Wik Project Pty Ltd as Traditional Owners of Aurukun.
This is a time of great opportunity for the Wik and Wik Way people of Aurukun.
For the first time in many decades, we have a real prospect of independance – of full participation in mainstream economy and culture. Into a depressing landscape of passive welfare dependancy, substance dependency, violence and abuse, a distant light now shines.
The glimmer of hope of something better for the Wik and Wik Way people is now on the horizon.
Wik Projects aims to embrace these opportunities through the development of sustainable economic development with key stakeholders and through harnessing the ability to live productive, imaginative lives where traditional owners can move between their own country, mainstream Australian life and the wider outside world.
Wik projects is undertaking the development of project sthat effectively create opportunities for traditional owners from Aurukun which include;
- Economic Development
- Infrastructure Advancement
- & Social Development
Together we can make a difference and I invite key stakeholders – Chalco, the State of Queensland and its agencies, Aurukun Shire Council, traditional owners and others to open, positive dialogue about what might be: about what we might aspire to achieve together.
Gina Castelain, General Manager.
